LF2 Basketball
2013 -2014 Ligue Féminine 2

Angers - UFAB 49 2013 LF2 champions of France

For the  fourth season of LF2 Basketball 13 teams have been accepted by the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) to participate.

After all the drama of the 2012-2013 L2F season in which two teams had pulled out and a third team had not started, the FFBB were more strict in allowing teams to take part.

After 33 seasons of playing in the top division Aix-en-Provence pulled out of the LFB lacking the deposit of 54,000 Euro into the guarantee fund. As the club does not owe anybody money they have been allowed to play in LF2.

The other three news clubs for the LF2 basketball edition have won promotion from NF1: AL Aplement le Havre, Charnay-lès-Mâcon and Avenir Basket Chartres.

The reason for only 13 instead of 14 teams in this division this season is that there is a legal battle with Perpignan Basket.

Perpignan was thrown out of the LFB despite finishing 3rd last season due to a number of financial irregularities. Hence they were demoted to the regional league (Division 6).

The club fought the decision and came up with a rescue plan for LF2 which was accepted by the Sports Court of Arbitration. However the FFBB rejected the appeal and refused Perpignan Basket a place in the second division.

The regular season tips off on Saturday, 12 October 2013 and comes to an end on Saturday, 26 April 2014.

The post season between the top four teams, known as the LF2 final four, is hosted by the winner of the regular season during the weekend of the 17 - 18 May 2014.
