Physical presence and experience
count for playing basketball on day 2 of the Open LFB

Playing basketball on the second day of the Open LFB is always different to the first day. The players are all fired up to play after two days of media and sponsor obligations. The games also tend to be more physical with this year being no exception.

Charleville Mézières had to battle hard to beat Toulouse while Basket Landes bashed their way past Villeneuve d'Ascq. Nantes-Rezé rolled over Calais in the last encounter of the weekend.

It seems that Ambrosia Anderson (above in picture) from Charleville adores playing basketball at the Open. Right from the tip-off she was ready for a show. Amel Bouderra and herself found their range from beyond the arc within the first five minutes for an early lead (15-9).

On the other hand, Olivia Epoupa was also in fine form for Toulouse. Yet she could not stop Charleville winning the first quarter (23-13).

Toulouse were not afraid to throw their bodies into action and played more physical during the second and third quarter. However their opponents held the advantage going into the final quarter (56-41).

While Charleville almost threw away the match by especially missing 5-from-6 free throws in the dying minutes, Epoupa's effort on her point guard duties almost paid off in the last quarter. But the first five minutes into the game could not be redeemed and might have cost them a possible victory.

Although the player-of-the-match award was granted to Anderson for her clutch shooting (16 points and 3 steels), French basketball fans have seen that Epoupa (above in picture) is looking dangerous. wbbif thinks that her team works well off her, so Toulouse should be an interesting team to watch this season.

Basket Landes and Villeneuve d’Ascq faltered in getting into the grove with both sides being poor offensively. Basket Landes took more shots than their opponents and ended up winning the game (59-54).

Danielle Page (19 points, 12 rebounds, above in picture) is another player who enjoys playing basketball at the Open LFB. She scored the decisive points at the right moment to lead Basket Landes to victory and therefore deserves her award as player of the match.

In general both teams can play better. Basket Landes have simple systems and appear to be more organised than Villeneuve d’Ascq.

The last match of the second day of the 10th anniversary of the Open was one-way traffic with Nantes-Rezé really giving no chance for Calais.

They put the game out of their opponents' reach with a 9-0 run to start the second quarter (32-13). Sarah Michel was the player of the match with Nantes winning (81-48).
