The Open LFB - the first season's event of top women basketball players in France

The Open LFB started in 2002 (Temple sur Lot) as a pre-season warm-up tournament for all the participating LFB teams. It continued in its original format (Orléans) for another season and then, after a year break, in 2005 the LFB revived the Open with another concept and named it Basket and the City.

This event is held in one venue for the top women's basketball clubs in France as the first round of matches in the regular season. For the third consecutive year Paris is hosting Basket and the City.

Its success attracted two other leagues, the Irish as well as the Italian one. The Irish SuperLeague tipped off its "Basket and the City" (Women’s SuperLeague Weekend extravaganza) in September.

For the Italian league, the Lega Basket Femminile, their top women basketball players will meet for the first time this coming weekend, from the 19th until the 21st October for their Open, the LBF Opening Day. The captain of the French national team, Audrey Sauret-Gillespie, is making her début with Toronto, one of the Italian LFB clubs.
