2013 LFB round 12: Arras and
Perpignan keep their fans happy

Arras picked up their third LFB victory of the season by beating Villeneuve d'Ascq, while Perpignan Basket maintain their place in the top 4 of the regular season standings. Both teams bounced back from their LFB reversals in the previous round.

Arras beat Villeneuve d'Ascq (71-62) in the North derby. Johanne Gomis-Halilovic who is the captain of Arras scored 15 points and dished out 5 assists. Her team-mate Sandra Dijon-Gérardin scored 14 points and picked up 5 steals while Dawn Evans was the only other player in double digits with 14 points.

For Villeneuve d'Ascq Jennifer Digbeu was the leading scorer with 14 poins while Bintou Diémé finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

This result means that Arras and Villeneuve d'Ascq swap positions in the regular season standings, with Arras moving out of the relegation zone.

Arras team players 2012

Arras had a brilliant first quarter in which they connected with 5-from-8 attempts from beyond the arc to open up a double-digit lead (27-15) by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a more balanced affair as the teams traded basket for basket. Arras went into the locker room (45-32) ahead.

A tactical experiment by Villeneuve during the third quarter failed for Arras to extend their advantage (59-43) going into the final quarter.

Arras have collapsed quite often during the final quarter this season, so even with five minutes to play and leading (67-47) they were not home and dry.

Although Villeneuve finally found their range from beyond the arc with Digbeu hitting the target once and Diémé and Lenae Williams twice in the last three minutes, Arras hung on to victory.

Both teams complete the first half of the season with just 3 LFB victories.

Perpignan Basket won, but USO Mondeville gave them something to think about

Perpignan Basket 2012-2013

USO Mondevillees round 8 EuroLeague Women victory against CCC Polkowice cost them dearly because Naignouma Coulibaly fractured her cheekbone during the game. She will be informed soon if an operation is required but until then she is off the basketball court.

In the match against Perpignan Basket, Perpignan had the better of the first 20 minutes and went into the locker room leading (38-22). Even with the loss of Pauline Lo who hurt her shoulder Perpignan Basket appeared to be in control.

After the break USO Mondeville went into overdrive to come storming back with Amanda Lassiter scoring 19 second-half points. With their 17-0 run during the third quarter left Mondeville only trailing (48-52) going into the final quarter.

François Gomez, the coach from Perpignan, made some minor adjustments in the last quarter and left Abby Bishop in the game despite her 4 fouls.

Bishop was to foul out eventually but by then she had scored 18 points. Elodie Bertal had her best offensive game of the season with 12 points while Diandra Tchatchouang helped herself to 10 points as Perpignan won the game (66-55).

For Mondeville Lassiter finished with 21 points while Giedre Paugaite and Laëtitia Kamba pulled down 11 rebounds each while scoring 12 and 10 points respectively.
