Czech Republic still on track

The Czech Republic just about held their nerves in keeping their European Championship ambitions alive. They held off Latvia (66-56) in the third quarter-final match.

At this stage of the competition, only the result of the day matters. The Czech Republic almost surrendered a 22-point third-quarter advantage with five minutes to play as their game completely fell apart.

The Czech Republic had been outscored 15-2 over a seven-minute period that brought Latvia right back onto their tail to make it a 4-point game with five minutes remaining on the game clock (57-53).

Latvia taking risks did not pay off as they tired down the stretch and scored just 3 points.

Lenka Soukalová (in picture above) was the match hero for the Czech Republic with her all-round hustle play. She did not miss a single shoot and finished up with 13 points and also picked up 8 rebounds and made 4 steals.
