LF2 wbbif awards 2012-13

The 2012-2013 LF2 basketball season will be remembered for the efforts all the teams put in to make the championship competitive and interesting.

The absence of Etoile de Voiron and SO Armentières from the starting blocks meant that relegation was not a factor this season.

In addition the late forfeit of US Laveyron almost threw the championship into turmoil.

However despite issues behind the scenes, the players gave their own on the court and we had to wait until the very last match of the regular season to know all the teams for the post-season Final Four.

At womensbasketball-in-france.com we have seen all the players in the division on at least two occasions at live games during the current season.

We have also had the help of basketball fans from around the various regions in France who have provided us with useful information for our weekly reports.

Hence we have decided for the first time to give out some accolades to players, coaches and organisations in LF2.

Although it is said that "stats don't lie" but at the same time stats do not always tell the true story. Our LF2 player of the year connected with 61.4% inside the paint while she also showed that she was capable of hitting from outside the arc with 37%.

She was our February player of the month and the revelation of the season. The future doctor Maud Lesoudard edged out Oumou Touré and Céline Schmitt for the player of the year award.

In the young age group wbbif have had to give out two awards: player of the year and most valuable player (MVP).

Margaux Galliou-Loko could have been celebrating a EuroLeague Women bronze medal with Bourges Basket, instead she won a regular season title with Cavigal Nice and the wbbif young player of the year award.

Gallliou-Loko has been fighting with ligament problems for almost two years. Today the smile is finally back on her face as she clocked up the minutes.

A second award is necessary because many of the clubs fielded U18 players. Aby Gaye from the CFBB was electrifying when she played.

Louise Dambach

But it is Louise Dambach from the SIG that got everybody excited. She turned 17 in February and finished the season with just under 10 points a game while inside the paint with 49% of her attempts. She played her first senior game for the SIG in 2012 against Arras in the French Cup.

Since then there has been no stopping her and therefore she earns the wbbif LF2 young player MVP.

The coach of the year award goes to David Girandière from Angers. His team finished 3rd in the regular season with a balanced scoring attack with eight players scoring more than 6 points per match and nobody averaging more than 10.6.

Illkirch-Graffenstaden were almost welcoming wbbif and win the award of the "club most open to media".

Finally our all division team for the 2012-13 season would be:

Aurélie Cibert, Kathleen Bourdin, Johanna Tayeau, Anaïs Jomby, Oumou Touré, Céline Schmitt, Mélanie Arnaud, Maud Lesoudard, Fabienne Constant and Carine Brossais.
