EuroCup Women news
Good for Turkey, better for Belgium
Same for France and hard for Russia

The second round of the 2011-2012 edition of the EuroCup Women competition was much more exciting with just one blow-out from the 15 games.

Nantes-Rezé was the only team from France to miss out on a victory while the teams from Turkey just managed to remain perfect.

Gülsah Akkaya's last buzzer beater saved Optimum Ted Ankara from defeat against AD Vagos. Trailing by 2 points with four seconds to play the veteran fired in a shot from the land of many for the victory (71-70).

Besiktas JK playing at home needed a last second shot by Courtney Vandersloot to force overtime against Telge Basket (61-61). The fifth quarter was not easy for the Turkish club but they held on to win (70-68).

The other two clubs from Turkey also playing at home had more comfortable victories: Botas beat BC Horizont (70-57) while Kayseri Kaskispor beat Olimpa (77-66).

Four EuroCup Women victories for the Ligue Féminine de Basketball

Nantes-Rezé had all the aces in their hands to beat Dexia Namur leading by 5 points with three minutes to play. But Ifunanya Ibekwe (32 points) and Laurence Van Malderen had other ideas and the Belgium club snatched the victory (79-74).

Marina Solopova © womensbasketball-in-france.com Laëtitia Kamba is flying at the moment and her 18 points' help for USO Mondeville to beat Spartak Noginsk (52-51) on the road. Raisa Lenshina had the chance to win the game or force overtime from the charity stripes in the last few seconds. Unfortunately for her, she missed all free throws.

Arras beat SISU (70-54) while Basket Landes cracked ZZZ Partizan Galenika (78-64).

In the only live stream game of the week Saint Amand Hainaut Basket did not play well but managed to hold off the Flying Foxes (75-68). Marina Solopova (in picture) had a game high 21 points in the game.

Much better for Belgium in EuroCup Women this week

Dexia Namur's victory against Nantes-Rezé was followed by another Belgium victory on the road. The Lotto Young Cats beat Dyamo-GUVD (75-69).

Philip Mestdagh, the coach of the young cats, explained afterwards that it "was a tough game, we had a lot of turnovers, but in the third quarter we organised our offense and scored some easy baskets. The key factor was that Dynamo played the last game mostly with five players only, so they played a lot of time in that game, and today we decided to play quick basketball to put the opponents in foul trouble."

He used 11 players during the match with nobody playing more than 28 minutes. His use of the bench paid off because during the final quarter he was to play his main players who then made up a 9-point deficit to win (75-69) with Noémie Mayombo and Emma Meesseman sharing the scoring with 14 points each.

The third Belgium club BBC Sint-Katelijne-Waver were unlucky as they fell on the road to Chevakata (55-88).

WBC Dynamo struggled at home but saved themselves and the Russian league by beating Lombos (70-69) while Dynamo Kurst needed overtime to beat Maccabi Bnot (81-72).

The team from Israel were playing only their second match of the season.

At the time of writing this report the dispute that led to the cancellation of the domestic season in Israel may be resolved and a championship is still to be played.
