After only two rounds of the Ligue Féminine de BasketBall, two teams remain undefeated:
USVO maintained their perfect record with a road victory against Calais (87-62). Their opponent ran out of steam in the final quarter and allowed them a 26-7 run to secure victory.
Bourges travelled to Mourenx and required 15 minutes to get going. In the meantime Mourenx continued from where they left off on Saturday with excellent perimeter shooting to lead comfortably (45-36). Then Bourges finally woke up and put together a 20-2 run to take control of the game and went into the final period with a 10-point lead. Isis Arrondo (17 years old) gave Bourges a scare at the beginning of the final quarter as she scored 5 points to reduce Mourenx’ deficit (69-64). This was as close as they were allowed to get because Céline Dumerc took control of the game and paced her side to victory (91- 78). Anna Cata-Chitiga made her debut in the LFB while Carine Paul sat the game out.
On the other hand, it was not a happy ending for Liz Moeggenberg on her return to her old hunting ground Arras as her team from Tarbes finished on the wrong side of a 2-point match (69-67). The game was nicely poised (57-57) with four minutes left on the clock when the deciding match-up between Sheana Mosh and Marielle Armant for Arras against Kristen Mana and Gisela Vaga for Tarbes reached its climax in a rather physical encounter, which was not a sight for the faint hearted. Finally the home-court advantage won the day in the end.
St Amand’s 16-2 run which was spread between the 3rd and the 4th quarter, was enough for them to overturn Montpellier (72-62) at home.
Mondeville made short work of Aix-en-Provence (81-57) despite losing Jennifer Digbeu early in the second quarter with what appeared to be a sprained ankle.
Challes-les-Eaux fell at home to Villeneuve d‘Ascq of wich the surprise of the evening was the return of Géraldine Robert for Villeneuve. The hosts slow start as it required them practically the whole of the first period to get going which left them with no option but to chase the game. Kathy Wambe finished the match with 16 assists.Last but not least Reims held on to beat Clermont-Ferrand (78-76).
Clermont: Anael Lardy 4, Claire Tomaszewski 7, Guiday Mendy 0, Jennifer Butler 7, Pauline Krawczyk 16, Claudia Das Neves 14, Vita Kuktiene 15, Elena Nikipolskaïa 13.
LFB Round 2 information Aix-en-Provence and Cob Calais are the only teams without a victory. Laurie Koehn (USVO) hit 5-of-6 from 3-point to make 11-of-12 after two games. Kathy Wambe finished with 16 assists and 5 steals for Villeneuve. To close LFB round 2 news Emilie top scored for the round with 28 points.
