Ligue Féminine 2's last weekend of 2011

During the last weekend of Ligue Féminine 2 action before the break of the end of the year it was again a good weekend for the teams playing at home with six victories.

The 14th round marked the start of the return games in the regular season. Unlike on the opening day of the 2011-2012 LF2 season there were no shock results.

The CFBB failed in repeating their opening day victory against Dunkerque despite 17 points, 6 assists and 6 steals by Olivia Epoupa and overtime.

Dunkerque Malo struggled all through the match and escaped with solid free-throw shooting by Amélie Fresnais during overtime to win (65-57). Dace Pierre-Joseph was the leading scorer with 16 points. Aurélie Durand added 13 while Taisiia Bovykina and Sabrina Scott (12 rebounds) had 12 points each.

Aida Fall © The performance of the weekend belonged to Aïda Fall (in picture) who went 15-of-19 from the floor in scoring 35 points while collecting 10 rebounds as US Laveyron avenged their opening day defeat (63-64) against Armentières by winning (81-67).

Fall has had a colourful career with stops at USVO, COB Calais and Challes-les-Eaux in the LFB. She had also been selected for the national team from Senegal.

However at club level her biggest success has come in the lower leagues where she picked up two French Amateur Cup medals, in 2006 with Perpignan and in 2011 with her current club US Laveyron.

Armentières have been poor at home this season. They had no answer for Fall and Elena Vishnyakova. Mia Fisher was the top scorer for the hosts with 20 points.

Roche Vendée completed the double over Illkirch-Graffenstaden with a comfortable (89-61) victory. Nadja Morgan and Johanna Tayeau scored 22 and 20 points apiece in the victory.

Compared to other home games, Perpignan were given a harder test at home by Voiron.

They won the game (72-58) with another solid performance from shooting beyond the arc. They connected 7 times from 13 attempts. Pauline Lo led the scoring with 16 points while Hélèna Ciak chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds. Voiron on the other hand hit just 2-of-22 from beyond the arc.

Manon Sinico © womensbasketball-in-france.comCOB Calais, another team that lost on the opening day, blew away their guests (80-49). Calais never trailed in the match after only edging the first quarter (20-18).

By half time hosts had a 12-point advantage (34-22). After the break it was then one-way traffic. COB Calais had four players in double figures with Manon Sinico (left) leading the way with 17 points.

The Toulouse fans were treated to an offensive festival as their team beat Reims (95-62). The contest was as good as over by the end of the first quarter with Toulouse ahead (23-8). Nina Bogicevic from Toulouse scored 26 points while for Reims Jenny Fouasseau had 18.

Léon Tregor trailed for most of their match against Le Havre but stole the victory with 2 points from their captain Aude Kernevez in the dying seconds (71-70).

Kayla Smith who was the top scorer in the game with 27 points almost saved the game with one attempt just before the buzzer but failed.
