EuroCup Women prelimary round is over
Last week all the French clubs have already attained qualification for the sixteenth-finals in the FIBA Europe EuroCup Women. This week’s preliminary phase they had to concentrate on improving their ranking for the knock-out stage.
Once in front Tarbes controlled the pace of the game by dominating the boards 44-16. They also scored 25-of-30 free-throws as they completely outclassed their opponents who were unable to get to the free-throw line and accumulated 25 team fouls. Moeggenberg was leading the scoring with 21 points. Her team mate Gisela Vega compiled a double-double 20 points and 16 rebounds. Spanish club sides dominate LFB clubs in EuroCupGran Canaria beat Aix-en-Provence (83-61) to remain undefeated in group H while Baloncesto San José took down Lattes Montpellier (57-53). Despite this defeat Montpellier finished second in group L. In the last EuroCup tie Hondarribia-Irun completed the Spanish grand slam with (78-73) against Challes-les-Eaux with 39 points coming from Shameka Christon. Ranking of the 32 teams qualified
EuroCup Women sixteenth-finals drawThe sixteenth-finals will be played over two legs with the higher seeded team starting away and hosting the second game.The first leg of these matches will be played on the 10th January 2008. Tarbes was the only successful team with an away victory (78-31) against Novia Munalux, Namur. After a hesitant start in the opening minutes Tarbes took hold of the game after Liz Moeggenberg (left in picture) gave them the lead for good (7-6) midway through the first period.
