NF1 basketball league, divided into two after five rounds

Roche Vendée are NF1 basketball first surprise of the season

The season is only in the fifth round and already the league is divided into two sections. Roche Vendée are the only team with a 100% record. But with five other teams just one game behind them in terms of victories, nothing is certain at the top.

At the other end of the table with the CFBB wining their first game of the season, there are six teams that have won one game. Yet these teams are already three games down on the teams in second place. It can already safely be said that the relegation competition has already started.

Matthieu Chauvet explained last week after his team's victory against Pleyber-Christ that he was not satisfied with the way his team played.

He will not have any complaints this weekend after his side won by a considerable margin on the road (99-67) against Colomiers.

Chauvet had the luxury of not playing any player more than 30 minutes. They rewarded him by all getting onto the score sheet with six players in double digits.

Lucia Laskova had the honour of being the player of the match with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Unfortunately Toulouse is the team that the home supporters have decided not to like this season.

Every defeat is reported as an exploit by the winning team. This weekend Toulouse travelled to Charleville-Mézières and came away with nothing as they lost (67-72).

The game was evenly contested with Charleville holing onto their advantage for most of the time. They survived a third-period fight-back by Toulouse.

Amel Bouderra © FFBB Charleville had five players in double digits with Amel Bouderra (left) being the player of the match with 13 points and 5 assists.

Toulouse, less collectively, heavily depended on the 24 points by Emmanuelle Hermouet. This was the second defeat for Toulouse this season. As a result they are eighth in the current standing.

NF1 basketball in Strasbourg

There are two teams in this division playing in this town. The reds of Illkirch-Graffenstaden (SIG) and the blues of Strasbourg ABC (above in picture).

Both teams have identical records with 4 victories and 1 defeat for this season.

The SIG, playing at home, beat Voiron (88-73) and Allison Vernerey made the headlines with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

But the real story of the match lies elsewhere. The return of Aline Fischbach to action after her injury is an important milestone for the team even if her stats for this match were nothing to talk about.

The head coach of Voiron, Laurence Lemarchand , is well known in Strasbourg as she played for the blues of Strasbourg when they were called Racing.

The other story of the match was the entry of Sarah Simon for Voiron. She played on the same team with Vernerey at Mulhouse for five years and was instrumental during the promotion of Mulhouse to NF2 at the end of the 2006-2007 season. This was the first time that both players were on the same court but on different teams.

The blues of Strasbourg travelled to Pleyber-Christ. With 10 minutes of magic by Laurence Cayot they walked away with a win (66-59). Celine Lix-Boubala was actually a product of the Strasbourg youth academy. However her 27 points were not enough for Pleyber-Christ to win for a second time.

The first Strasbourg derby of the season is scheduled for November 1.

Dunkerque's difficulties continue as they lost again at home (68-76) to Limoges. Dunkerque had the better start to the match by scoring the first 5 points. Yet they were unable to maintain their intensity and conceded 12 points before fighting back to draw level (19-19) by the end of the first period.

Dunkerque played better in the second and third period but could not open up a significant lead. Although they were ahead by 6 points they fell behind (50-54) going into the final quarter.

Dunkerque managed to draw level once more (57-57) before falling away at the end.

Nice had no problems as they cruised past Ifs (81-46) and the CFBB recorded their first victory of the season (73-62) against Laveyron.

Armentières appear to like Brittany as they notched up their second victory in the region as they beat Rennes (62-51).
