2011-2012 Ligue Féminine 2
Is it better to play offensively?

The fifth weekend of the Ligue féminine 2 basketball turned into an offensive avalanche with all the winning teams scoring more than 65 points.

The usual group of players such as Agathe Nnindjem-Yolemp, Floriane Herrscher, Mélanie Arnauld, Hillary Klimowicz, Elodie Chieze-Leroux, Jenny Fouasseau, Mia Fisher, Dace Pierre-Joseph, Taisiia Bovykina, Céline Schmitt-Sendner, Oumou Tourre, Magalie Mendy, Amanda Lassiter, Nina Bogicevic, Aïda Fall and Kayla Smith continue to make headline news for their clubs in victory or defeat.

However for the fifth round some established names in French basketball came out of the shadow of their team-mates to lead their sides to victory with an excellent display of offensive basketball.

Pauline Lo (L2F) © womensbasketball-in-france.com French international Pauline Lo (right) went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and scored a game high 25 points as Perpignan won on the road against Roche Vendée (75-66).

The match itself was not as exciting as the scoreline suggests but both sides had fun from beyond the arc with a combined success rate of 19-from-46 attempts.

Elena Vishnyakova stopped playing high level basketball in 2009 and instead took a job in the marketing department with Charleville-Mézières.

Although she continued to play with the second team her signing with US Laveyron came as a surprise. She is now 33 years old and this weekend she led US Laveyron with 19 points and 14 rebounds to victory against Le Havre (69-49) for their second victory of the season.

Cheryl Maledon was the game top scorer with 20 points. For Le Havre Kayla Smith was restricted to just 9 shots. She managed 7 points and picked up 10 rebounds while Michelande Auger led the team with 12 points.

Ligue Féminine 2 round-up

Philippe Breitenbucher (L2F) © womensbasketball-in-france.com Franck Simon and Philippe Breitenbucher (in picture) are two of the longest serving coaches with the same club in LF2. For the ninth official meeting between the two coaches it was the ladies of Breitenbucher for Illkirch-Graffenstaden that came up on top (67-47) against Léon Trégor (former Pleyber-Christ) in a match that they led from start to finish.

COB Calais blew away the CFBB in a one-sided contest (79-47). The CFBB had no answer for Floriane Herrscher who hit 9-of-11 of her shots.

Limoges ABC scored the first 10 points of the match against Reims and never had to look back. It turned into a high scoring encounter with Limoges stretching their lead quarter by quarter to win (84-64).

As expected the match between Voiron and Toulouse

Nina Bogicevic led the scoring with 19 points for Toulouse while Carrem Gay took care of the rebounds with 14. For the hosts Amanda Lassiter led the scoring with 21 points.

Dunkerque Malo led by 11 points with four minutes to play and ended up losing at home to Armentières (61-65) after suffering a 15-0 reversal.

Dunkerque failed to score during the closing minutes and saw their hopes of victory disappear with Héléna Akmouche hitting a three-pointer to put Armentières in front for good.

Dunkerque dominated the rebounds with Dace Pierre-Joseph (12 points) and Taisiia Bovykina (20 points) picking up 11 rebounds each in their team's total of 42. Armentières managed only 28. Sabrina Scott added 4 points while picking up 8 rebounds.

Armentières' strength this season has been their group play. Mia Fisher was the top scorer with 18 points while Akmouche added 15 points. Anaïs Déas and Aurélie Carmona also finished in double digits with 12 points each to secure the derby win and also make if five wins from five games to remain on top of the Ligue féminine 2.
