In the quarter-final game of the FIBA U17 World Championship for Women, the hosts France won against Australia (69-59).

Despite the efforts of Tayla Roberts and Gretel Tippett, France edged the first half (32-30).

Then with good shooting by Esther Niamke-Moisan, Alice Nayo and Jodie Cornelie, France extended their lead and never looked back.

For France in double digits were Sara Chevaugeon with 13 points, followed by Claire Stievenard with 12 and Cornelie with 10 points.

Australia's Tippett top scored with 17 points. The only other player in double digits for Australia was Stephanie Talbot with 10 points.

In the semi-final game France meet Belgium.


Results of the quarter-finals:

China 68-59 Russia
USA 86-57 Spain
Belgium 93-70 Japan
France 69-59 Australia


China led all the way with Dong Yu top scoring again with 19 points while for Russia Galina Kiseleva poured in 15 points in her side's defeat.

The Spanish team did not find a solution to break the defense of the USA and after leading in the first few minutes of the first quarter, the USA took over to never look back for their 6th consecutive victory.

USA had four players in double digits, led by Kaleena Lewis with 16 points while Maria Teresa Gonzalez top scored for Spain with 15 points.

With Emma Meesseman and Julie Vanloo firing 46 points from the 93 points for Belgium, Japan was always forced to chase the game.

The only other player in double digits for Belgium was Harriet Bende with 15 points while Yuki Miyzawa for Japan top scored with 21 points.

Turkey 88-56 Mali
Argentina 59-51 Canada
