Fenerbahçe with Phoenix members hold on to EuroLeague Women award


Diana Taurasi © womensbasketball-in-france  The EuroLeague Women player-of-the-week award stays in Fenerbahçe after Diana Taurasi just edged out Isabelle Yacoubou-Dehoui.

Taurasi takes over from Penny Taylor that won the award after the first round. Taurasi and Taylor are also team-mates for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA.

Fenerbahçe were involved in a high scoring game against Gospic Croatia (109-92).

Taurasi who led the scoring with 34 points, also had 7 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals to her name. Her team-mates Nevriye Yilmaz and Penny Taylor scored 22 and 15 points each.

In the last game of the second round UMMC Ekaterinburg required seven minutes to gain the upper hand against their hosts Lotus Gdynia.

Cappie Pondexter who was required for point-guard duties fired in 22 points and picked up 10 rebounds as she led UMMC to victory (80-62).

It was not a vintage UMMC performance despite dominating the rebounding (45-21) as they turned the ball over 21 times.

Ann Wauters and Sandrine Gruda also finished in double digits with 17 and 13 points each.

For Lotus Gdynia Milka Bjelica led the way with 11 points, while Monica Wright and Sandora Irvin had 10 each.
