Gambrinus Brno won (75-69) in Valencia to claim the last place for the FIBA Europe EuroLeague Women 2008 basketball final four.

Ros Casares got of to a good start and took an early lead (12-9) with just over five minutes

Hamchetou Maiga started the Gambrinus Brno’s avalanche with a two-point jumper. The onslaught was completed by Hana Machova as they went on an 11-2 run to go back in front and finish the first period leading (21-14).

The guests maintained their momentum during the second quarter and stretched their advantage by the interval to (40-27).

In the third period Ros Casares found their rhythm and put a 16-6 run together to unsettle the guests (40-44). Jan Bobrovsky, the coach from Gambrinus, called a time-out in order to put a halt to their opponents' comeback.

Then Gambrinus managed to regain control of the game with successful free-throws. Yet it was Tamika Whitmore’s three-pointer that once again gave them a 10-point lead.

At the start of the final period Gambrinus was ahead by eight points (56-48). After Delisha Milton-Jones from Ros Casaras, who had scored 8 points in this quarter, fouled out with a little over two minutes to play, Gambrinus still had a 7-point lead.

Elena Tornikidou then scored for Ros Casaras the last 8 points for her side. With 18 seconds to play Ros Casares came within two points (69-71) to their hosts.

Zuzana Zirková (Gambrinus Brno)Machova held her nerve on the free-throw line for the guests to give them a 4-point lead. Laia Palau, who did not have one of her better games, had a chance to reduce the deficit but failed with her jumper.

Machova took the defensive rebound which more or less finished the game for Ros Casaras. Gambrinus went on the attack once more and Zuzana Zirková scored the last points of the game.

Zirková (above)for Ros Casares led all scoring with 22 points. Whereas Whitmore who was the Foreign player of the year in the LFB in 2006 contributed 21 points for the winners. Jana Vesel finished with a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for Gambrinus Brno.

Milton-Jones (14 rebounds) and Tornikidou had 16 points apiece for the home side. Katie Douglas contributed 14 points while Elisa Aguilar finished with 13 points.

Bourges Basket and Gambrinus Brno will face each other in the second semi-final of the EuroLeague 2008 final four.
