USO Mondeville remain in the EuroCup Women competition

Mondeville keep the EuroCup Women dream alive after beating Botas Spor (86-70).

Temeka Johnson and Sharnee Zoll © Fiba Europe Temeka Johnson (right) was back in action for Mondeville. She traded baskets with Courtney Paris from Botas Spor during the first couple of minutes (4-4).

While Paris was kept quiet for the rest of the quarter Judit Kajdacsi who scored 10 first-quarter points became a handful.

Johnson (9 points during the quarter) was all over the court for the hosts and with back to back three-pointers by Lenae Williams, Mondeville finally took control and edged the quarter (21-14).

Johnson and Williams continued to score and with 12 minutes played Mondeville had made up the 9-point deficit from the first game and took the aggregate lead (26-16).

Johnson and Williams were allowed to take a back seat as their team-mates started to hit shots from all over the court to go into the interval leading (47-26).

Botas Spor did not make things easy for the hosts. By the end of the third quarter they had reduced the deficit to 15 points.

With just over a minute played in the final quarter Botas Spor were back on aggregate level scores.

Aurélie Bonnan restored the aggregate lead for Mondeville with a drive to the basket. She also drew a foul and converted the free-throw.

Although Williams hit her 5th trey Mondeville were unable to pull away. With five minutes to play despite leading the game (76-68), Mondeville were behind on aggregate score.

Aija Putnina< © Fiba Europe Then Aija Putnina (left) knocked down a couple of free-throws for Mondeville. Hervé Coundray, the coach from Mondeville, decided to change the defensive system by playing a high press.

Sharnee Zoll scored what was to be the last points for Botus with just under four minutes remaining. However a trey by Valeriya Berezhynska on the next attack gave the hosts the advantage for good.

The rest of the points came from the charity stripes with Mondeville hitting 5-of-6 to win the game (86-70) as well as the tie (153-146).

Johnson led the scoring with 22 points and 5 assists. Williams finished on 17 points while Bonnan and Putnina scored 11 apiece.

Paris led the scoring with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the guests while Kajdacsi, Zoll and Dürdane Gümüsay scored 17, 16 and 14 points each.

EuroCup Women joy for the Royals

The roller coaster EuroCup Women campaign of the Saarlouis Royals will continue for another round despite losing to KK Hemofarm Stada (69-84) in the return leg.

The Royals went into the contest with a 21-point lead which they lost with four minutes left to play in the third quarter.

KK Hemofarm Stada's aggregate lead did not last long as the German club side regained the aggregate lead with a pair of free-throws by Romy Bär as well as lay-ups by Tyresa Smith and Petra Manakova.

Hemofarm still led the match (66-51) going into the final quarter. They had a maximum advantage of 19 points but were unable to make up the 21-point deficit from game one.

Dynamo Moscow flirted with defeat against Ibiza Sport Island before pulling away during the closing minutes to win (70-67). Russian international Marina Kuzina led the way with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Seat Györ showed little interest in chasing down the 29-point deficit from the first leg and were crushed at home by Dynamo Kursk (44-85).

Allison Feaster-Strong © Fiba Europe Allison Feaster-Strong (left) with 14 points led Mann Filter Zaragoza to victory against Nadezhda Orenburg (78-72). But her side still ended up being eliminated from the competition. Sheana Mosch fired in 25 points for the Russian team.

Gran Canaria beat Romanian All Star team Municipal Targoviste (78-67) with 20 points and 11 rebounds coming from former Tarbes youth international star and Bulgarian international Zaklin Zlatanova .

However they came into this game trailing by 25 points and were never in contentions for overturning the deficit.

Lattes Montpellier will look back on this competition and ask what went wrong in Cyprus. They failed to overturn the 20-point deficit from the first game against K. V. Imperial AEL. As a consequence they are out of the competition.

Pauline Krawczyk fired in 21 points and Constance Jinks added 15 in the victory against K. V. Imperial AEL (58-51) while Chamique Holdsclaw fired in 18 points and picked up 10 rebounds for the guests.
