Last season Lattes Montpellier's historical "Coupe de France victory" in lifting the Joë Jaunay trophy also won them a place in the 2012 EuroLeague Women competition.

The format of the competition remains the same as 2011 with the first two rounds played in a regional format.

However when looking at the draw more carefully it is sometimes difficult to understand the regional context when you calculate the distance some of the teams have to travel.

The defending champions Lattes Montpellier have a round trip 1800 km for their first round game.

With 27 teams from LFB and LF2, five teams qualify from the Amateur divisions based on their performance in the Amateur Cup.

Last season Sin Dechy Ostrevent (Union Avenir) caused a sensation in reaching the quarter-final of the amateur edition of the French cup. As a reward the FFBB offered them a place in the senior competition although the team plays in the fourth division (NF2).

To encourage the teams from the lower divisions to participate in this competition they are always drawn to play at home.

However with two all-LF2 clashes, the team drawn first out of the bag won the right to play at home.

All the games for the first round are played between the 27-29 January 2012.

The draw for the sixteenth-final is as follows:

Saint-Etienne (NF1) vs. Challes-les-Eaux (LFB)
La Tronche Meylan (NF1) vs. Lyon (LFB)
Voiron (LF2) vs. Aix-en-Provence (LFB)
US Laveyron (LF2) vs. Cavigal Nice (LFB)
