Laura Macchi lighting up EuroCup Women final with 16 points in the second half

The first leg of the EuroCup Women final went to Beretta-Famila (87-67). BC Moscow should be disappointed in allowing their hosts to take a 20-point lead into the return leg.

BC Moscow had the better start and raced out to an early lead (10-2). Yet the hosts drew level (21-21) by the end of the first period thanks to Mudju Ngoyisa.

The guests from Moscow did not waste much time in regaining the advantage in the second quarter in which they stayed in front till midway through (33-32).

Federica Ciampoli from Beretta-Famila put her side in front for the first time. However Plenette Pierson was on the mark to put the Russians back in front (35-34).

Ngoyisa was causing BC Moscow all sorts of problems inside the paint and put Famila back in front as the lead changed for the last time. Beretta finished with a 6-0 run to go into the interval leading (40-35).

Laura MacchiLaura Macchi (left) was to score 16 points in the second half of the match as the home side took control of the game.

The third period turned into a three-point festival as both sides knocked in trey after trey with the hosts having the better of the exchange. Beretta-Famila went into the final period with a 14-point lead (66-51).

In the beginning of the last quarter Berretta scored the 7 unanswered points to finally pace themselves to victory (87-67).

BC Moscow are by no means out of the final yet. Although they lost the first leg of their semi-final and quarter-final ties this can be turned around.

Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya scored 17 points for BC Moscow.
