Youth international Basketball in Violaines

BC Violaines

The youth international basketball preparation begins for U16 Division B nations in the BC Violaines international tournament where the national teams play against U18/19 clubs from Europe.

BC Violaines’ youth international basketball tournament is in its sixth year. In this edition The Netherlands are back after missing last year’s tournament. They are joined by Luxemburg, England, Tunisia and Slovenia that were third in the Thermosteps European Championship 2007 in Chieti, Italy. Nika Baric was not only the Violaines MVP but also the MVP of the Championship 2007.

Furthermore these national teams are paired against U18/19 teams from Lithuania, The Netherlands, France and Switzerland. The format of this international tournament helps the national U16 sides in their European Championship preparation.

The competition starts on Friday, 9th May and ends on Monday, 12th. The last season the Belgium U16 national team were the winners of this tournament. Two of their last year’s members, Noémie Mayombo and Jana Raman were also representing their country in the U21 world championship where Belgium finished 7th. They were coached by Cathy Populaire who was as well the assistant to Laurent Buffard’s Belgium senior team during the EuroBasket Championship 2007 in Chieti, Italy.

The organisers from BC Violaines use this tournament for their own club as an end of season activity where they pay tribute to all the people involved in running the club and teams during the year.
