Youth international basketball giants confirming their status

The youth international basketball event for women U20 is drawing to its conclusion. The qualifying round has come to an end with only one team remaining undefeated.

France U20 in Italy

In the final day of the qualifying round France and Serbia booked their tickets into the semi-finals. Serbia sealed Turkey’s fate during the third period with (35-8) and crushed Turkey (87-58).

France, without Sarah Michel, had Carine Paul to thank as she scored 22 points for them as they held off the Czech Republic (72-65).

Aneta Obrusnikova from the Czech Republic hit six three-pointers in her tally of 22 points. Yet her points were not to be enough to take the game against France and to stop then to finish top of Group E.

Latvia ran out winners against Italy (77-60) to complete all the games in Group E. Latvia and Turkey will now play in the 5th – 8th place classification round while Italy and the Czech Republic will play in the 9th-12th place group.

Russian remain unbeaten after downing Spain in a tight match (68-64). The Russian reward for this victory is a semi-final match against Serbia while Spain will take on France in the other semi-final.

In the other matches from Group F Lithuania cruised past Belarus (81-46) while Ukraine beat Montenegro (94-65).

Ukraine and Lithuania join Latvia and Turkey in the competition for 5th place, while Belarus and Turkey will play in the 9th place grouping.

Germany have avoided relegation to Division B by beating Bulgaria (74-68). Greece will be in Division B next season after losing to Belgium (51-55).

Division A has a rest day on Friday while Division resumes action after their Thursday rest day.
