More EuroCup Women victories for French clubs


Arras' EuroCup Women win over Reyer Venezia has qualified them for the next round of the competition.

Arras never trailed in this game and paced themselves to victory after winning the first quarter (20-11).

Arras did not have it all their way for the remaining 30 minutes. But they had enough in reserve to pull way each time their opponents came close to drawing level.

Olesia Malashenko © LFB  Olesia Malashenko (left) led the attack with 17 points while Johanne Gomis, Pauline Akonga-N'Simbo and Aija Putnina scored 14, 13 and 12 points each.

Reyer Venezia was led by Roberta Meneghel who scored 26 points. For Nicole Ohlde and Liene Jansone who had played in France, it was not a happy return despite scoring 15 and 14 points each.

Arras will meet Dexia Namur in their final match of the qualifying round.

In the rest of the action for the first day, Nantes Rezé beat Vagos (95-75) with six players in double digits. Caroline Aubert went 3-of-3 from three-point land while accumulating 12 points. She also dished out 6 assists.

In Group I, Villeneuve d'Ascq secured the group win while eliminating Olivais Coimbra (79-64). Laurie Datchy regained her scoring touch with 14 points while the duo Carla Thomas and Olayinka Sanni combined for 41 points.

Ruzomberok assured second place in the group with a comfortable victory against the Lotto Young Cats (79-43).

In the only other game played Minsk-2006 beat Petrolina AEK (81-53). Minsk-2006 have now completed their qualifying games and have to wait and see who they will play in the sixteenth-final.
