EuroBasket Women 2013: held in France
La France organisera l'Euro féminin 2013

France will host the 2013 edition of the FIBA Europe EuroBasket Women.

France are the current Eurobasket Champions and last hosted the event in 2001 for women and 1999 for men.

More recently France hosted the U18 European Championship for Men Division A in 2009 and the U17 World Championship for Women in 2010.

In addition the 2009 EuroLeague Women All Star game and in 2010 the EuroLeague final four was staged in Paris.

The venues and the dates for the oncoming Championship will be confirmed early in 2011.

FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson and FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin were both upbeat about the 2013 EuroBasket Women to be held in France

"France have the knowledge and the necessary background to make this a very successful event," said FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson.

FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin was had no doubt that the choice of hosts was the right one.

"Women's basketball is very popular in France, who, among others, are the reigning European champions. From a sporting perspective everything promises a great event," Zanolin said.

"This is recognition of our know-how and a first step in our strategy event that is long term. The organization of a EuroBasket Women will showcase our sport and our national team in our territory," commented Jean-Pierre Siutat, French Federation President and a member of the Board of FIBA Europe.

"My thanks go to those who supported us in this effort and with whom we will work in the coming days to designate the venues for this Championship. I also want to thank the French government for its support to the projects we have submitted."

FFBB Logo © FFBB  Le Bureau Central de la FIBA Europe, réuni ce jour à Munich, vient à l'unanimité de ses membres d'attribuer l'organisation de l'Euro 2013 Féminin à la Fédération Française de BasketBall.

Ce choix vient récompenser le dossier français qui a mis en avant son expérience et ses qualités reconnues en matière d'organisation, mais aussi ses résultats sportifs dans les compétitions internationales, pour rappel l'Équipe de France est Championne d'Europe en titre et profitera d’évoluer à domicile en 2013 pour tenter de décrocher un nouveau titre.

"Il s'agit d'une vraie victoire pour la FFBB et d'une reconnaissance de notre savoir-faire de la part des instances internationales.

C'est aussi une première étape dans notre stratégie événementielle qui s'inscrit dans la durée et que j'avais présentée à l'issue de mon élection à la tête de la Fédération le mois dernier.

L'organisation d'un Euro permettra de mettre en avant notre sport et notre équipe nationale sur notre territoire.

Je remercie les Ligues et les Comités qui nous ont soutenus dans cette démarche et avec lesquels nous allons travailler dans les prochains jours pour désigner les sites de ce Championnat d'Europe.
